Flyin’ Goblin
Have you been on holiday looking at a lovely castle, and thought that you’d love to yeet some goblins at it? Yes? OK weirdo, but the good news is that there’s a game for that particular kink.
Year of Release: 2020
Number of Players: 2-4
Playing Time: 30 min
Listed Age: 8+
Mechanics: Dexterity
Theme in a Nutshell: Launching thieving goblins at a castle to steal treasure
What I like:
The box is well constructed to be part of the game, and the whole thing has a cool aesthetic.
You can use some of your spoils to recruit new goblins that have different powers, or just add to your ammunition to increase your army’s ability to gain more bonuses each round. There’s a lot of options, which can lead to different play-styles.
There a couple of different ways to win, which is nice. The “standard” way to win is to be the first to collect 25 diamonds. Which as you know, is a lot, but not too many to keep the game going on for too long.
You fling in real time, so it can be a bit of a frantic fast paced kind of thing, which is quite fun (and loud). You only get cut off time-wise when everyone else is done, then you get one last shot, which you should not throw away.
There’s a fair amount of luck involved. Don’t take the game too seriously and you’ll have a good time.
My Rating: 7/10
What I don’t like:
Sometimes the box is tough to pack away. There can be some slight misalignment that can lead to frustration.
Storing it sideways is a problem. Don’t do it.
Is if good for kids and families?
Parents can pace themselves to ensure the kids aren’t left in the dust time-wise, and it’s an easy teach. Kids should love the flinging aspect, and the theme should also appeal to any children that love the ridiculous. The parents in this household also enjoy playing, so it can be a game the whole family doesn’t resent being forced to play.
