Crokinole

Flick me up (before you go go). Are you even Canadian if you’ve never played this? Huh? Are you? Maple syrup ain’t got nothing on this. Go ride a moose and eat some back bacon you hoser. The Queen and I both played this as children, so we bought our board shortly after we got married 21 years ago, well before we got in to hobby board games.

What I like:

You can play this with the kids, with the parents, and with the grandparents.

There are many disk flicking games out there, but this is the grand daddy of them all, and likely still the best. The simplicity of the rules, but the skill required to play it keep it as an ultimate evergreen game.

My Rating: 8/10

What I don’t like:

The board can be a bit expensive, especially if you go HARDCORE about it, and it you’ll have to find a spot in the house to keep it. It’s not small, nor particularly portable.

Is it good for kids and families?

Crokinole is a very simple game, and you can tailor the rules to be more kid friendly. The whole family can play, young and old, a very low barrier to entry. It’s good in family gathering/party situations, as you can easily converse while playing, and everyone around knows what’s happening.
