We played 65 new-to-me games in 2022, twenty of which have made it in to my top 99 of all time. One fifth of the list is comprised of new games. Is this the fault of recency bias, or was it a good year for finding new games that suit my sensibilities? I feel like

Ranking board games is a time-honoured tradition. Every time you turn around on YouTube there’s a video of someone ranking board games based on some kind of criteria. This is my 2nd attempt at a top 99 ranking of the 345 games I’ve rated on BGG. I only rank games I’ve played, so there will be some popular games that do not make an appearance on the list.

BGG / Board Game Geek, is the de facto website for all things board games. Most people in the hobby log their plays there, rank games there, and post in forums to discuss games. Anyone who’s googled a rule for a board game has probably come across the website.

I want to get in to board games with my kids, but you know, the good ones. Not that crap that I grew up with and loved. Those suck.

In December of 2020, I ranked all of the games I’ve rated on BGG (and therefore played) in to a top 99 list. I then posted on Instagram 9 games a day for 11 days with a little blurb on each game. I’ll try to do this annually every December going forward, just for giggles.
